Player Summary
The war was won last time. This one was for the burial, and the two strangers it dug up.
The party stood over Shirley in a cemetery still littered with the dead he helped put down. Caelum performed a ceremonial Bladesong and gave the eulogy: he mourned “the warrior you were to them,” because his amnesia took the friend Shirley was to him. The table honored that grief the only way it knows how, with a “butterfly” joke and a toast to great pairs of tits.
Then they gave Shirley a Viking’s funeral. No wife, no kids, no next of kin anyone could name, so they sent him out on the bay and lit the boat with fire arrows.
A stench pulled them back to Mexoz’s sarcophagus. Inside was not the lich, it was a pristine, foul-smelling white dragonborn who woke up swinging a tidal wave. Caelum shut the panic down with Dispel Magic instead of a blade, and the party met Cartman Sandiego: a former privateer of the ship Widow’s Covenant, memory-gapped like Caelum, with no idea how he ended up in a dead lich’s coffin.
Meanwhile Kimber, still disguised as a zombie, took an arrow to the shoulder from a hidden stranger, Wrathgar (Charles’s new mountain-man ranger), who genuinely thought he was hunting undead for the bounty. Caelum froze him mid-draw with Hold Monster, Kimber Commanded him to “apologize” (the table’s poop-gag classic), and once nobody was shooting anyone, he joined up too.
Oggy and the crew searched the mausoleum: 248 gold, 186 silver, three fist-sized garnets, and a sealed letter written in a language even Idril doesn’t know. One garnet turned out to hold a living miniature ship, the Widow’s Covenant itself, sailing and screaming inside the stone. Orion consecrated the yard with Ceremony so nothing would rise again.
They still hold the lich’s gold cylinder from June 4, now confirmed to have a combination code they can’t crack. Kimber’s zombie curse is still ticking. The plan: rest, head home to Beadale to see Sister Helwin about the money, the letter, and the cure, then go see the undead dragon who sent them after the crown in the first place.

Key Decisions
- Gave Shirley a Viking funeral (cremation on the water) rather than a burial, honoring his “scatter my ashes” request.
- De-escalated both new arrivals non-lethally instead of fighting; welcomed both into the party.
- Kept the sealed letter and code-locked cylinder to bring to Sister Helwin rather than forcing them open on site.
- Set the next destination: Beadale first (Helwin: bounty money, letter translation, Kimber’s cure), then the undead dragon.
Quests & Progress
- Cure Kimber’s Zombie Disease - Still active, clock running. New plan: Caelum researches a cure in his spellbooks over a long rest; consult Sister Helwin at the Dawn Chapel.
- Zombie Bounties - Cemetery loot recovered (248g, 186s, 3 garnets, sealed letter). Bounty gold still to collect from Helwin in Beadale. The lich’s phylactery cylinder is recovered but code-locked, so the lich-bounty claim is pending a decode.
- The Moonstone Crown - Resolved (June 4); the party still owes the undead dragon a report on its destruction.
Unresolved Threads
- The gold cylinder’s combination code (to open the probable phylactery).
- The sealed letter in an unknown “divine” language (Comprehend Languages failed).
- Cartman Sandiego’s origin: why was a sea privateer found in the lich’s sarcophagus? His amnesia parallels Caelum’s.
- The Widow’s Covenant trapped as a living miniature in a garnet; Captain Velrah “the Black Tide” possibly trapped in another gem.
- Kimber’s curse timer still running.
Reminders for Next Session
- Long rest first (Caelum’s cure research; spell recovery).
- Travel to Beadale: see Sister Helwin at the Dawn Chapel for bounty payment, letter translation, and Kimber’s cure.
- Then travel to the undead dragon to report the crown destroyed and get next steps.
- Cartman is carrying the ship-garnet; the code-locked cylinder is in party inventory.
Loot & Gold
- Gold/silver gained: 248 gold, 186 silver (cemetery/mausoleum search).
- Items found: 3 fist-sized garnets (one contains the living Widow’s Covenant; transmutation magic; the other two read as nothing on low rolls), 1 sealed letter (unknown “divine” language).
- Items retained: Shirley’s battleaxe (used as a lever to open the sarcophagus, now carried by Kimber).
- Items still held from June 4: the gold cylinder (probable phylactery), combination code uncracked.
- Used/lost: Shirley’s body cremated in the Viking funeral.
