Previously on Mostly Mortals...
The cemetery was behind them. The crown was lost. But the Mostly Mortals had a bag of fingers... and a chapel that pays in gold.
Sister Helwin of the Dawn Chapel counted eleven zombie fingers and one ogre finger. Six hundred and fifty gold, paid in full. And one new rule, etched in stone... if you want the bounty on a lich, you bring back the phylactery.
Then she opened the tome.
Seven hundred years old. The history of the lich the party is hunting. His name... is Mexoz Valaryn. Born under a blood-red comet, in the lost empire of Serath-Kul. A prodigy. An exile. A man who feared death so deeply he spent forty years wandering ruined kingdoms... bargaining with fiends... searching for a book called The Ebon Gospel.
And the final pages... are missing.
Caelum tried to remember Serath-Kul. He rolled a three. And a five. He remembered nothing. Amnesia does not care about lore.
Meanwhile, downstairs at the inn, a band would not stop playing. So Shirley crept down the staircase, quiet as a shadow, and dropped a Mysterious Unlabeled Potion into their drinks. Four band members. One superfan. Five third arms. The drummer thrived. The lute player did not.
Idril read alongside Caelum all night. Oggy helped split the gold and stalk the merchants. Shirley bought splint mail like it was a fine wine. And Kimber... Kimber tried to sell a pyramid scheme to a blacksmith. It did not work. So she walked to the blacksmith's house, looked three children in the eye, and told them their mother does not love them. "Santa's not real. Bye." Door slammed.
And Orion, silent all session, the Paladin of Vengeance... walked straight to the city guard and reported his own bard.
Caelum did not sleep. He read until dawn. Earned an exhaustion. Confirmed the tome is only Part One.
And that is where we pick up tonight...
